I was tempted to do this after reading an acquaintance’s review of the year. And as with previous posts, ignore any grammatical errors π
It’s been a year of gbas gbos, up and down, here and there, this and that, and a whole lot of in between.
Earlier in the day, I dropped a tweet which sort of a summarises what happened in the year and I’d be going into the details here.
2020 has been a year of learning, growing, losses, gains among others. I didn’t travel out of Lagos until October when I went to Ile Ife, Osun State.
Like everyone else, I started the year with a lot of high hopes: I was going to organise the Techpoint Build 2020 (physical) conference, work on the West African Startup Decade Report among other things.
Techpoint Build 2020 conference
I was tasked with the role of organising the 2020 edition of Techpoint Build which was supposed to be a physical conference.
As of January, my calender was ready but I had to refine it because of SME Clinic which was held in February. I was supposed to continue with the planning afterwards but COVID happened.
The event was supposed to be held in June (I think) but I have started hunting for a venue for the award ceremony, one of the lineup of events of the conference, in January.
With lockdown in March, the fate of the conference was no longer certain and there was the decision to held the event virtually and this time, I was no longer in charge π
West African Startup Decade Report
As I pointed out in my preface for the report, the report is the biggest project of the my (data analyst) career and for most people on the project. And IT WAS EXCITING.

After Chidinma, my colleague, spent about 18 months on data gathering. I came in on the project in January.
It was an exciting experience. I did a little bit of data gathering, some of the analysis, and graphic designing while also coordinating with partners for the project.
I push myself to the extreme on the project, doing two hours of sleep daily for eight days straight while also camping at the office on some other occasions.
I’m looking forward to do do a couple of days without sleep π. Well, I like to bury myself in workload whenever I have a project I’m working onπ€·πΏββοΈ
I learnt a lot working on the project, one of which was getting to use a new graphic design application π.
Others
*I participated in a conference (Phenix Virtual Impact Summit) as a panelist, one of the first in the year.

*After five years of trying to move out of Lagos, I finally get to move π which is the best thing that happened in the year.

*About the extreme that I pushed myself to as earlier stated. I was on the decade report and I had to take a break to work on the Q2 report while also working on a personal graphic designing project. Interestingly, the personal project went to the press the same period that the decade report was released.
*I was going to start growing my dread during the lockdown but I gave up on it. Well, I’m still not giving up on it. Considering that we are going fully remote from January 2021.
*I started the year in a “relationship” which I had to end and I’m ending the year on a single note π
*I’m still a broke ass, just less broke π€¦ββοΈ
*I think it’s safe to conclude that I grew emotionally, mentally this year. I was also more financially conscious.
*I got an offer which I didn’t follow up on for a couple of reasons. And yes, I’m happy about my decision on that.
*I lost an aunt in the year.
*I didn’t tick any item off my bucket list this year π€¦ββοΈ but I got two more inks π. I was supposed to add an extra one but Oma didn’t come through.
*I had my first hiking experience, climbing one of the hills inside the Obafemi Awolowo University campus.
Moving forward
*The plan is to make money π.

*Learning!!!
*Invest in myself. O dikwa important
*There was good news dropped about one of my Ogas in the company’s WhatsApp group and after everything I posted something around love: if I find love, fine and if not, baby boy all the way. Victor, my big brother and every other person concerned about my “singleness” will be fine π
I spent the last couple of weeks in the year jumping around while ending the year by spending five refreshing days at the beach with my phone on airplane mode all through π. I canno come and go and kill myself
On a final note, I’d like to appreciate everyone that has been part of 2020. Let’s do it together in 2021 again π
