Morpheus from the Matrix trilogy in one of his speeches said:

…Believe me when I say we have a difficult time ahead of us. But if we are to be prepared for it, we must first shed our fear of it….

I couldn’t have put it any better except for the last part of that quote. I don’t know how shedding our fear of it prepare us for it.

President Buhari in his speech yesterday said there would be a lock down in Lagos, Ogun and Abuja for 14 days from 11pm today in order to control the pandemic.

I have stocked up on food since last week which brings me to the scary part.

Some of us are surviving on daily income with little or no savings for the raining day. Fourteen days of no work means hunger for these set of people which I find really scary.

I can’t emphasise how scary I am. You can call it paranoia but it is what it is.

We live in a society where we don’t attack the real enemy but ourselves. Last year when there was a xenophobic attack in South Africa, Nigerians back home here were attacking establishments by Nigerians: distroying properties and carting aways with goods.

During that period, I heard of a sad story. A Lagos-based family lost a son in South Africa in the attack and the shop of his mother was robbed in a retaliation action here in Nigeria. Now what!

People were on the street attacking fellow Nigerians’ vehicles. Interestingly, some of these people that lost their properties and means of livelihood to the retaliation actions here in Nigeria have no connection to South Africa.

It’s scary and I’m scared. I just hope that our law enforcement agency will step up their game to protect lives and properties of Nigerians, and not just political office holders and people that can afford to have them on payroll.

I don’t want to say much, stay safe people. ❤️
