It’s been while in spite of promising to be dropping by at least once a week after my marathon in March. Let’s hope I’d do better.
I have always been open to the idea of moving out of Lagos since forever which was why I jumped on an opportunity for Kaduna back in 2016 without even thinking it through. I came back the same year and I’ve been looking forward to such an opportunity ever since.
The few friends I have know that I don’t like Lagos and would jump on any opportunity to leave, even if it’s just for a day. And if I would be in Lagos, so far I’m be going out.
Earlier in March, I wrote about looking forward to an opportunity to live anywhere but Lagos. Well, moving out of the Center of Excellence is on table and I’m still contemplating, which I think it’s weird.
I have been working from home since late March with occasional visit to the office as well as for our monthly physical meeting.
For me, working from home takes out the Lagos pressure: not spending up to 5 hours daily on the road. With vaccines already being developed, it’s safe to say the end of the pandemic is near. So, this is likely not going to be the new normal.
And I may be wrong as more companies are already embracing work from home.
So, I have only been to a few states in Nigeria, namely Lagos (of course), Ogun, Osun, Kwara, Oyo, Ondo, Kaduna, Plateau, and Niger. And Lagos will still not make the top five if I revisit the order I made in March. It would be Abeokuta, Ibadan, Kaduna, Minna, and Jos, in that order.
Unfortunately, the location that’s on the table is not among the top five Nigerian cities that I looked forward to living in and I never for once thought of the city as a choice.
I was chatting with a friend last week and it came up. The question my guy asked is “what are you waiting for? Why are you still thinking about it?”
Baba still use style to throw shades at my being single, that I don’t have any other commitment in Lagos aside work. ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
As much as that’s true, there are a couple of things worth thinking about. Well, they are just for the sake of thinking, anyways ๐
The only thing I’d probably miss is the proximity to the beach. But I can always come around every quarter for that. Besides, I’m likely going to be in Lagos once a month or thereabout on official or personal assignment.

With the beach not much of an issue. It brings us to the life-work balance that I have been making effort to balance, which I’m still failing terribly at. I wanted to say life itself is not balance but this just has to.

What possible effort would moving out have on that part of my life? I honestly don’t know ๐คท๐ฟโโ๏ธ
While I’m leaning towards moving, I’m still…
Your choice is quite similar to mine.
I travelled to Kaduna in 2019 and knew instantly I was moving out of Lagos.
Kaduna was the destination and I told everyone and anyone who would listen, They talked me out of it
So when I fell in love with Ibadan, I spoke about it to NO ONE! Moved out one fine Friday and it been a jolly ride ever since.
Can I take a wild guess? Is it Kwara? Ilorin to be precise
It is my list though. Especially now that everybody wants to come to Ibadan

Kaduna, the city of course, is great and the weather is nice. You will be amazed if I tell you my Kaduna story, people said I’m crazy. That year, all I wanted to do was leave Lagos, nothing else.
That’s a wild guess but I hate to say that you are wrong ๐.
