This should have been out yesterday but I spent the last couple of hours of last night on Intelligence by Techpoint monthly newsletter.

What is the best thing that has happened to you so far this year?

That was on a friend’s WhatsApp status in late November. What a year! Well, I’m still here. 😁

In my 2020 review, I wrote that the plan moving forward is to make money, keep learning while also investing in myself. We changed the calendar today and it’s safe to say that I did all those and more except for the first part 😩

Like everyone else, I entered 2021 with hopes and dreams. 

A lot of gbas gbos, this and that, and a whole lot of stuff in between them all. The summary of the year:

• still a mess 😒
• still broke 😏
• love 🤪
• was deliberate about investing in myself 🤓
• learnt alot
• grew 🤪
• had a couple of firsts 🤫
• fucked up a couple of times 🤦‍♂️

I’d try and keep this short like the newsletter that went out this morning.

I started the year in a new environment with great and loving neighbours which I’m grateful for.

I experienced a couple of firsts in 2021: classified 😁. The ones I can share: this will be the first year that I didn’t go for an inking session since 2019. Just like 2020, I didn’t check any item off my bucket list but we go again. And I didn’t spend a day at the beach this year as well 😢

I participated in a virtual conference hosted by Data Science Nigeria where I presented some of the findings of the funding activities of Nigerian startups over the years.

Started and finished an online course, Product Strategies for Journalism by The Knight Center for Journalism, University of Texas. I also became more intentional about my data journey by taking a Power BI class after which I jumped on another one.

On the work front, I started and finished a report about the African Blockchain industry. My department also partnered with Y Combinator for a mini-report about the activities of the US-based accelerator in Africa. 

We continue again this year, it’s still the same set of goals ✌️

I know it’s cliché to say today, January 1st, 2022 is just another day, another Saturday 🤷‍♂️ but we all know that the “new year, new me” is… well, you know what it means and the only thing we are changing is probably wearing different panties every day, maybe 😂.

I’d like to extend gratitude to everyone in my life last year, you all made the year worth it: the love, motivation, conversations, the dragging, gbogbo ti gbo. Thank you for fueling the optimism.

Let’s do it again this year.
