I’m moving on after a little over 8 years, or almost a decade, depending on how we want to look at it.
I joined Techpoint Africa in January 2018 as a reporter. From being a reporter to an editor, then acting research lead, eventually Head of Research at Intelpoint, and lastly, Director of Research and Business Intelligence. I actually started tracking funding for startups in the country the same month I joined.
In total, I’ve done almost 10 years with Techpoint. I joined Techpoint in its early stage, just two months after launch as a freelancer. I even started the Startup of the Week series, a weekly publication that spotlights innovative early-stage startups and giving them visibility. Through the series, some brands got their earlier media feature, or earliest in some cases. The series featured brands like MAX, Termii, Pass.ng, ChurchPlus, and Delivery Science, among others.
Working at Techpoint (Techpremier and then Businessfront) has been a rollercoaster experience. I’ve had the opportunity to work with great people, some of whom have become friends.
Goodbyes can be hard, but they are part of life. This ends a chapter in the book of me.
🥂 To everyone I’ve worked with these past 8 years: colleagues, contractors, and clients. Listing names would make this a long one. Thank you Adewale for the opportunity, and Muyiwa is a great boss.
While I’m saying goodbye, I’d always consider myself a part of the Businessfront family. Plus, I see Intelpoint as “my baby”: yes, I can say that I built Intelpoint.
I’m proud of what Techpoint has grown into and the role I played in it.
I’d probably do some writing about my journey over the last 8 to 15 years, covering the projects, wins and losses, ups and downs, and everything in between.
I’ve grown and learned a lot.
What now
I’d be exploring some opportunities.
Yes, I’m open to opportunities.

After doing more than 8 years, the plan is to take a month or two off. But the truth is, that’s not so possible because I have one or two projects to work on that seem to be timely. I also have an AI course on my to-do list.
Irrespective of this, I will be taking an entire week off, during which I won’t be thinking about work. Maybe I’d finally watch the Lord of the Rings movies or rewatch Game of Thrones, while I figure out what’s next.
