Do we really change?

I’m back, after Tope somehow chased me away from Twitter.

Growing up, I really don’t fancy birthday party to start with and I never had one. Back then, all my mum would do was to get me a birthday cake for my class mates. And this is before my teenhood.

This got into teenhood and the only birthday I ever celebrated while in secondary school was in final year. Guess what, it was impromptu. I got to school that day and just decided to get biscuits for my classmates. My classmates ended up funding the biscuits for the whole school.

Till date, it remained the best birthday gift I ever received.

A couple of months later, it was the valedictory service and I was the valedictorian. My folks were already planning on going all out before I busted their bubble: “I don’t want too much people,” and they won’t prepare any food.

Who does that?

After much back and forth, I agreed that they can bring soft drink but then “if I see more than a few people, I won’t come to say hi.”

Well, it was my show 😎.

I just hate having crowd gathered, just for me. One of my exes would say I’m deceiving myself and that’s because I don’t want a wedding ceremony with more than 10-20 guests.

I missed my matriculation as well as my convocation. And it’s not because I was busy the days they were held.

Left for me, I might not attend the valedictory service. I was persuaded to wear suit during the service back then.

Someone had a fight with me because I won’t show up at the convocation service that I was supposed to participate in. Shebi it’s my own convocation na.

If you ask my childhood friends, secondary school mates and work colleagues about me, one thing that would be common in their responses will be “he’s not going to host a wedding with a large crowd.”

I look back at times and wonder when we say “people change.” Do we really change or our features get amplified? I believe is the latter: yes, some of our characters change while other get amplified. But what do I know.

Till tomorrow, it was a busy day by the way and I couldn’t leave the office until 6pm. Shout out to Titi for helping out today.

I have to bounce now, I have a job to finish before 7am tomorrow 🤦‍♂️.

  1. Our characters definitely get amplified.

And yes I still believe people change…when they want to.
But usually it’s just an aspect of themselves.

Can’t believe, I missed this post. Not slacking because I’m planning on copying your style.

FYI, March has the most post since the inception of this blog. 😁 bravo!
